One of the biggest changes in my life since I started Yoco Studio has been that I have been able to spend a lot more time outside. It has made such a difference. I feel grounded during a yoga practice, it clears my mind when I’ve been in front of a screen and it is a great way to let off steam if I’m feeling frustrated.
There’s so much research that tells us that getting outdoors is good for us, but it’s easy to skip a lunchtime walk when a deadline is looming or there’s a heap of jobs to do around the house.
This is where outside journal prompts can help! By reflecting on what we love about getting some fresh air and how it affects us personally, it’s much more likely that we’ll prioritise our time outside.
Here are 5 journal prompts for you to try - notice your answers, and see whether you feel more inspired to get outdoors:
Notice and name your outside places
List or map out 3–5 outdoor places where you feel calm, connected or simply okay. They can be as small as a windowsill or as big as a forest.
Try it as: a written list, a sketchy map or even a voice note.
What does “outside” feel like today?
Step outside (or sit by an open window). What do you notice in your body, your breath, your mood? Is there a shift, even a small one?
Try it as: a few words, a sensory list (what can you see / hear / smell / touch?) or a colour that matches the moment.
Barriers and bridges
What makes it hard for you to get outside? What helps? Try making two short lists: one for barriers, one for little things that make it easier.
Try it as: lists, doodles or a mind map.
If nature could speak to you today…
Imagine a tree, the wind, a river or the sky giving you a message. What would it say?
Try it as: a short dialogue, a one-line poem or even a playlist of songs that capture the feeling.
Your “outside” intention
What’s one small way you’d like to connect with the outdoors this week? How can it support your wellbeing?
Try it as: a written note, a reminder in your phone or a symbol on your calendar.
If you’re looking for support to make time for mindfulness, movement or simply connecting more with yourself and the outdoors, I’d love to help. Whether through yoga, coaching, or a mix of both, I can help you find more space, clarity and calm in your day-to-day life.
