I have definitely made big decisions without properly thinking through what that change means for me - 'a change is as good as a rest' was my go-to phrase for a long time. And while that means I've very rarely felt stuck, I've often found myself wondering why the change hasn't worked out the way I imagined it would. Before any big change, consider these questions to get a better idea of whether this is the right decision for you...

Gold pen on white journal

  1. Why is this change important to me - and why now?

  2. What will my life feel like if I make the change - and how will it feel if I don't?

  3. What am I prepared to give up for this change - and how will I hold onto the things that matter most?

  4. What support will I need - and from who?

  5. What could stop me from making this change - and how could I overcome those setbacks?

Knowing why you're making a change and what you're prepared to do to make it happen is really powerful. It can also be really helpful to return to these questions every now and again, to remind yourself what you set out to achieve, and to test whether it's still what you want to do.
