Putting things into perspective

I often find it difficult to put things into perspective. When I'm caught up in the middle of something - working to a deadline, a cancelled train, a huge pile of washing to put away - it can be tricky for me to recognise whether it's earth shatteringly important or a nuisance I can work around.

You might very well find me fretting over laundry, which, in the long run, takes a big toll on my resilience. Energy is finite, after all. If I spend it worrying about a bag of clean clothes, there’s not much left for something that genuinely matters.

But resilience isn’t just about ploughing through a to-do list. It’s also about understanding when to say no and when to let things slide.

A little while ago, I was introduced to the Scale of Awfulness. It helps me rank situations from minor irritations to genuine crises. If I find myself spiralling, I can pause, assess whether the situation is really that bad, and decide on a proportionate response.

This simple tool has been a game-changer for me and I'd love you to try it too. Download your copy and let me know how it shifts your perspective!
